Year 6's Friday photo challenge

Today, our yr 6's made a start on our photography unit. Each Friday we are going to be working on loads of mini projects using a camera and different programmes and tools to be creative. Here's what we did as a warm up: what do you think?

Turbos Visit

Yesterday we were extremely privileged to have the Turbos rugby squad visit our school! We had an awesome time competing and watching them face off against our kids in gutter board, hoola hooping, the limbo and a team relay race. It was so great to see them here at our school! We were all very excited! Thanks to the Turbos for coming to visit and to Miss Simpson for organising!

Technology

Our year 7s began their technology programme today. They are in rotation groups and are going to be doing soft materials (sewing), food technology, hard materials (wood work) and CO2 cars. They have made an excellent start and are having a great time learning lots of new skills!

Week 1 Wonderful Wednesday!

Antarctica Inquiry!

In Room 5, we are kicking off term 3 with inquiring into Antarctica and how/why people live there, and their influence on the environment.

To start off our inquiry, we did some brainstorming of all the curiosities we have and the things we wonder. We played a new sharing game called Give 1, Grab 1 which we used to identify our common wonders/questions and share them each other. Together we collaborated and worked together and came up with all these questions. We will be doing lots of inquiring and using of information skills to learn about life in Antarctica.

Dance is underway!

Term 3 has kicked off well and we are straight into dance for PE. We join with Room 6 and are learning a whopping 20 dances that include line dancing, partner dancing and some modern grooves. It's good fun and we have great dance teachers from Room 6 helping us out!

Buddy class sharing!

It was so lovely on Tuesday afternoon having our little buddies visit us and share their amazing book creator projects! They have been doing some fantastic learning about the blue whale and have presented their learning using a new application, book creator. They have worked so hard and we, their big buddies, are very proud of them! Well done Room 1!

Football skill development!

Yesterday we had our second fantastic session with Debby from central football. We worked on our dribbling skills and played some fun games. The press ups and burpees we had to do when our ball hit the wall were hard work but we became very disciplined.

Disco Fever!

We all had such an awesome time at the disco on Friday night! We all danced and grooved and there was certainly some fantastic moves on display! Thanks to the student council for organising such a fun event!

BLACK DAY!

Today, we all dressed in black to show our support to the All Blacks as they take on the Lions tomorrow night! We always thoroughly enjoy dressing up, especially for such a good cause!

Egyptian God Art

This week we have been working on a piece of Egyptian God art. We each chose a particular god and sketched them. We then used a new technique where we used special pastels and when you add water to them, they go like water colours.  This has been both challenging and fun! Here is some pictures of us in action. Football with Debby!

Yesterday we had our first football coaching session with Debby from Central Football. We learnt some kicking skills and used these in a new game. It was loads of fun and we really enjoyed our session. Thanks Debby. See you next week.

Ancient Egyptian timeline learning.

Soccer!

On Tuesday this week, for winter sport rotation, we had soccer with Miss Fleet. We had fun playing a number of games and activities and working as a team on some challenges. Shooting goals was awesome and we certainly saw some good wipe outs!

Basketball Training!

Yesterday we had another awesome session with Miles doing basketball. We worked on our dribbling skills and learnt many new tips. We played some fun games and tried some challenging activities. Thanks for teaching us Miles!
