Gala Fun!
Well, what a day it was! This year's gala was absolutely outstanding. There was so much fun to be had, amazing performances and we sold lots of great things: waffles, food, photo booth pictures, plants, rides, second hand and new goods and the list could go on! We really are lucky to have such an awesome supportive community surrounding us that are more than willing to lend a hand or support the school and our children! Thank you to absolutely everyone that made this day possible and got in and helped out. I know the children of Halcombe School really appreciate it and had an fantastic day! Check out some of the great snaps of our day!

Animal Classification!
This week we started our new science unit. We are looking at the living world and learning skills such as classifying, identifying, observing and comparing. We made a start by brainstorming all that we know about animals, and attempting to map them into any categories that we could identify.

Colourful Pastel Art!
Over the past couple of weeks we have been working on a piece of art. We have been learning about blending, primary colours, contrasting colours, and warm and cool colours. First we had to plan out what patterns we were going to use and what colours would be in each section. We then drew our pattern onto a big piece and began our pastel work where we had to be very careful not to let the colours smudge. We cut them and glued them onto black paper to make the bright colours pop! Don't our finished products look amazing? We are really proud of them!

People Savers First Aid
Today in Room 5 we have been doing the people savers first aid course with Stacey from Red Cross. We have learnt many new skills today about administering first aid and what do do when some one is hurt. We also did some role play to practice some of the skills Stacey was teaching us. It was a lot of fun and we learnt so much! Thanks for coming Stacey!
Let's be friends!
Yesterday we spent time with out buddy class. They have been learning all about friendships -how to be a good friend, what a good friend does etc, so we helped them and taught them to make friendship bracelets. Our little buddies loved making them and their finished bracelets were very cool!

Key Competencies
On Friday afternoon, we watched some short video clips (see videos in our key comp videos page) that highlighted many key messages about relating to others, managing ourselves and participating and contributing . After watching these videos, we worked in buddies to identify all the messages we gained from the clips and things that we learnt. We then shared our ideas back as a class. It was very interesting and wonderful to see all the great learning and messages the children of Room 5 came up with!
Fun Friday!
On Friday we had a great fun class swim. We worked in teams to create human catapults where we had to discuss and trial different techniques. The aim was to get our person as far and as high as possible. We were judged on our technique, our team work and for one, our ability to make a massive splash! It was so much fun and there was an awful lot of giggling!
We finished off our swim with friendly game of flippa ball. It was great to see everyone get involved and have a turn!

Anti Bullying Drama!
This week in Room 5, we learnt and discussed bullying. We looked at what it is, what it looks like, and what we can do about it if we see it happening or are a victim of bullying.
We then went away in small groups and created drama performances to show a bullying situation and a solution to that problem. We were very creative and very dramatic.
Well done Room 5. We are against bullying!

Life Ed with Tim and Harold!
Last week we had 2 great sessions with Tim and Harold in the life ed caravan learning all about what makes our bodies work, some of the parts of our bodies, body systems, nutrition and energy. Tim was a great educator -he danced around, he was energetic, knowledgeable, a great actor and exciting to learn from.
Thanks Tim, for coming and being involved in our learning and experiences around 'what makes our bodies work' and for getting involved and learning about us in the playground. We really enjoyed your visit, learnt lots and hope we get to cross paths with you again, soon!
